Good localization

Good localization. Hard to find, even though it doesn't have to be. Even the big guns make mistakes. Remember the Microsoft debacle with the doctored picture used on the Polish website? (check it out) Some call this racist, but more than that I'd call it a shoddy attempt at localization.

How many Americans wouldn't find something fishy about a picture taken, for example, in a park in Poland, with some heads swapped out to look more "American". A million tiny clues would either overtly or subtly make the picture seem "off" to the American viewer (clothes, play structures, food being eaten).

The measure of a good localization is, would a person in the target region believe that the product was made with only them in mind? Swapping out a head in photograph is akin to putting your text into Babelfish and expecting the foreign market your targeting to lap up your product.
